I've only seen these grown by separating the roots and allowing them to spread. How long do they take to grow from seed into a plant that can be transferred outside? Most hostas don't bloom but are bulbs that get separated, but I see these have flowers and I'm interested in them for my garden. Thanks!

The flowers are what turn to seed pods. You can start them indoors and then transplant outside when they have 4 sets of leaves. Some fast growing Hosta can bloom after 4 months others take longer. If Hosta is planted close to another variety bee's can cross pollinate and produce a different variety. Although your Hosta is growing sometimes it could take up to two years to see it's true identity. Before I started to collect the seed pods and inability to work outside on "Hot" days to separate them, some of my Hosta have grown massive in size, almost looking like a shrub. Hosta seeds can be stored in the freezer for up to two years. I think every garden needs Hosta, it makes a wonderful spacer that also adds beauty!
