Questions & Comments
### i have just found out that this necklace is not really gold filled so, if the winner wants their points back, i will gladly refund them. it was sold to me (3 of them) as gold filled, & is marked gold filled, but i really doubt it. please do not bid on it if you expect real gold filled. it is still pretty, but will probably be silver in color in a few months or years. so sorry!
What a beautiful chain for my grown daughter as her birthday is soon and I am sneaky, hehehe! I couldn't see the stamp in your photos, so could you please tell me what it says to signify the 14k gold-fill and where the hallmark is located on it? She is allergic to many metals so either solid gold or American gold-fill is all she can wear. America made g.f. is made by creating a hollow tube of solid gold then filling with molten brass before binding with pressure (regulated by our Federal Trade Commission unlike other countries). Already a fan and watching this one like a hawk, haha! Thanks in advance!
Even with a loupe it is difficult to read, but since your daughter has had trouble with being allergic to metals, I wouldn't bid on it. It is highly suggested that anyone with metal allergies stick with stainless steel, 10 or 14K gold (not filled or plated), & titanium. I don't see a maker's mark on this one so, I'm sure it is not American gold-fill. Since you seem to know a lot about gold filled maybe you can help me with a question I have about another gold chain. It has a mark "Made in Korea" & another that says "American Standard." I've researched it & can't find any information. Any help you might offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. And good luck finding just the right chain for your daughter.
Thank you so much for your reply; I really appreciate it! I'm a wire jewelry designer/instructor and know about most jewelry metals. American gold-fill has at least 100 times more gold than plated, and remains gold for scores of years which is fine for those with allergies. I still have and wear a pair of gold-filled earring studs my dad bought at Sears when I got my ears pierced at age 13... um... about 1/2 century ago, and they're still gold! I have plenty of bulk g.f. chain and clasps, but it's also nice to get a finished chain for free, haha! Koreans make lovely chains but rarely with solid precious metals. The 1st way to check is to see if it is drawn to a magnet. Silver, gold, brass, copper, and aluminum do not attract, but iron or steel does. If it passes your that test and you still need to know, your best bet is to take it to a jewelry store or pawn shop to have it tested. Thanks again! ~ Dawn ~
Thanx so much for being honest. Also, I appreciate everything I learned from reading both of your posts. I'm just curious, why do you think now, it is not gold filled? Did you go & get it tested? Thanx! Jessica
