Description

The listing, 1965 New Zealand Stamp Honoring WWI Heroes has ended.

The combined New Zealand and Australian forces called Anzac took part in one of the bloodiest battles of WWI at Gallioli. The plan was to defeat Turkey (alied with Germany in WWI) but resulted in a disaster that left thousands of ANZAC troops dead or wounded. The uncanceled MNH New Zealand stamps honors these war dead some 50 years later. Please enlarge to see the stamp the winner will receive along with free bonus stamps from New Zealand and other British Empire countries.
Questions & Comments
Original
Gallioli was a case of a good plan where everything went wrong and officials kept compounding the mistakes. When the smoke cleared, Allied casualties numbered over 200,000 with some 20,000 killed were never able to be identified. The impact on the ANZAC countries was enormous.
