The listing, 1976 Topps LOU GEHRIG "All Time All Stars" (New York Yankees) has ended.
In honor of my 2000th auction being listed this week, I figured we'd focus tonight on vintage cards of Hall of Fame baseball players.
THE CARD:
This is a 1976 Topps LOU GEHRIG "All Time All Stars" card.
THE PLAYER:
Lou Gehrig was a part of the Yankees most legendary teams of the 1920s and 1930s, and was arguably the best production hitter in baseball history. Despite playing on 14 full seasons, Gehrig managed 1995 RBI, 493 home runs, a career .340 batting average, and 2 MVP awards. "The Iron Horse" was still leading the Yankees when babe Ruth was sent out to pasture ... or to the Boston Braves, which was pretty much the same thing in the 1930s. Gehrig retired with an "unbreakable" streak of 2130 consecutive games played ...although Cal Ripken Jr eventually beat that streak almost 60 years later, in 1995 ... the same number as Gehrig's RBI total.
You just gotta love numbers in baseball.
