Description

The listing, ANTIQUE PIE WHISTLE has ended.

This excellent to mint condition Pie whistle was made in England around 1880 thru 1910 and where used just like the ones most people know as "Pie Birds". It is the same idea that you put it in the middle of your pie and while its baking it lets out the steam so that it prevents it from spill over. A very highly collectable item as these are more rare to come by. Made by the Nutmeg Co. of England.
It is made of porcelain and is stamped with its origin.

I have collected these for years and in the last few they have been harder to find and much more expensive when you do. My look alikes I have decided will be going here and that will still leave me with about 30......manageable. This English one I have only seen in collectors books until I found both a couple of weeks ago in an antique shop...so decided to get both and share one here.....good luck....fanned u 2.

Well I wish you all the luck in your bidding. As these are English, most things to do with the Kitchen and of historical value....are pottery! Lots of clay....so lots of pottery factories were built in the 17 and 18 hundreds. Good luck and thank you!

Have you tried this? Does it whistle? :)

Oh Yes they whistle, and no I haven't tried this exact one, because it is new and I don't want to dirty it up for the winner. I have used several styles as I have about 38 in my collection and they all have a different pitch in there whistle. The big breasted bird will have a deeper compared to a smaller one who will have a higher pitch. This style will have a deeper whistle as it has a larger base also. Thank you for your interest.
