I assume you have a cable modem/router. You could technically do that by placing this router in another area and use it like an access point. I needed coverage of three floors and just purchased a more powerful new router but it was costly.

They actually make some pretty decent inexpensive WiFi range extenders these days in the 300mbps 2.4GHZ range...under 40 bucks. A lot depends on what you're wanting to use it for.
