From my research, I have read that silver that is plated cannot be identified as Sterling Silver.

I don't know about that. I think you can say if it is plated with sterling silver or not. You can say if its gold plated. Plated silver just cannot have the 925 mark on it but if it is plated with sterling silver overseas then for some reason they are allowed to put the 925 mark on it. Plated silver manufactured here in the States cannot have the 925 mark on it. I am going to have to research that more. Thank you
