Morning Glory Seeds, Ipomoea violacea- Pearly Gates

The seeds of several varieties of Morning Glory, Ipomoea violacea contain a naturally occurring indole called Lysergic Acid Amide (LSA). Morning Glory Seeds called tlitlitzin were used ritually by the Aztec for their psychoactive properties to communicate with the Sun Gods. Spanish chroniclers in the mid 16th century reported on the divinatory use of these seeds. Their use has continued in southern Mexico, although it wasn't until about 1900 that tlitlitzin was identified botanically as Morning Glory.

Morning Glory Flowers, which are square shaped, open in the morning, hence there name allowing them to be pollinated by hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other daytime insects and birds. Because of their fast growth, twining habit, attractive flowers, and tolerance for poor, dry soils, some morning glories are excellent vines for creating summer shade on building walls when trellised, thus keeping the building cooler and reducing air conditioning costs. The "Pearly Gates" variety of Morning Glory are a widely sought after, and they are grown as a climbing vine with beautiful flowers. Seeds are organically grown and harvested.
