I would love to do this, but worried that I wont have the technique to do it

:0) no technique needed. Just paint your nail how you want, let them dry then either place a dab of top coat where you want the stud or top coat your whole nail and while still wet place the stud where you want it. I use an orange stick, put a small dab of top coat on tip to pick up stud and place it. Then top coat over the nail and studs.
