it's a mirrored vanity tray, better listed in home decor. pretty hefty shipping price too.
It IS VINTAGE,that is a real "SILVER" back to make the CRYSTAL GLASS into a mirror.Crystal Glass, you add more sand & lead to the regular molten glass, when red hot pour face down into the mold, wait 5 minutes & lay the silver sheet on the back, which melts & stays put for hundreds of years. Not anything like machine made. The two spots of repaired under surface are commonly found on these. Polish Remover and some perfumes can 'lift' the silver, the rapid evaporation chills the metal, the glass isn't, two surfaces at different temps. As the metal shrinks in the cold,it pulls away from the glass, only a small spot is needed to be loose. The weight of the metal does the rest of the pulling away over time. Gram's right and she has a wonderful G-D in you. You go girl. But something we know the size of in the pic would help us know if it would fit in our homes. The one I inherited only had three ball feet,so I used a brass pressure washer & a bolt on the screw.I swapped the good back foot to the front. have a really open crochet thread doily which lets a lot of the mirror show, but protects the glass from scratches, drop nicks, and spills. I got it wet laid it on a sheet of foil in a pan and poured sugar on it. Set the pan in the oven w/o heat, to air dry. I have a sugar lace doily. First one didn't turn out well. I draped it over a reading lamp, and forgot it. When I did remember I had a new lampshade for my lamp which defuses the light nicely. It isn't stuck, but it fits like a custom made job. LOL So you just let the excess unasked for advice, roll of your back like water on a duck. They have the gall to call it moderation, it is high handed and assumes they have authority to expect you to comply(cooperate) and do exactly like everyone else perfectly from day one or they jump on your listing in public and flog you.?! About as rude as the person who flagged your auction & reported the shipping cost to LISTIA.
I have one of these items and love it. It is very pretty. As far as the shipping it is within reason. My tray is about 11" x11" I do not know what this one measures. but by the time you get it wrapped and boxed it adds on weight. This item is not real light. Other sites may charge more to ship. Hope this helps.
