Description

The listing, Vintage - Tiny Dress Designed Pot Holders - TWO - from Estate Sale has ended.

Vintage - Unique - Knitted - Potholders. How in the world do you describe these little cuties? TWO Vintage potholders that are knitted to look like little dresses. (rack in the photos is not included). You could also use these for a headless dolls, or maybe odd hand puppets, or... you could use them as pot holders. Truth be told, once you win them... you can use them any ol' way you want. I picked these up at an estate sale. I see no damage at all to them - appear to never have been used. So... maybe the lady who had them was either a really bad cook, so they were never used. OR... like me, she thought they were super cute, so they never got used. I think they are little pot holders. But, they could be the topper on something, maybe to go on top of your dish soap? There is not a hole in the top, only at the bottom of the skirt.

They are 5 x 5 in size (measuring at the bottom of the skirt and from side to side). At the top, where the shoulders are - they are 4 inches across. This auction is for both of them. I included pictures of the front and back of each one - but if you want to see other pics, just let me know.

I ship Super Fast, so please release your Listia Approved address to me right away. I always pay for shipping and tracking.

I have one from my grandmother, there was also a rolling pin and it's cover matched, I have the square potholders also same pattern. Mine I laid in the sun with lemon juice to chase the yellow age from them. I think you nailed it, they are used as kitchen wall decor, a "Coming to Tea" gift for the new housewife in the neighborhood. Girls learned their houseskills this way, and made items to go in their Hope Chests. Will be watching with interest.

Jeweler4Hire - thank you so much for the information! I just saw them and thought they were so cute - and so much work had obviously gone into them. Thank you for the hints on what the background may have been.

I thought so too. Read below...there was another post from a woman who knew more about exactly what they are. Very interesting what she wrote.

I cheat with a spellers dictionary, doesn't have the definitions, but most used words that are commonly misspelled. Misspelling is one of my daughters pet pevies. Then I write it in a small notebook, cause It takes a few times before I remember how.

Not knitted, but crochet.
