THE PLAYERS:
SAMMY ELLIS: garnered some MVP votes in 1964 when he went 10-3 with a 2.57 ERA and 14 saves as a reliever with the Reds. In 1965, he was moved to the rotation and responded by posting an impressive 22-10 record in 1965, earning an All Star appearance.
RAY CULP: 3rd in Rookie of the Year voting with the 1963 Phillies, Culp would go on to win 122 games in his career, earning 2 All Star berths. He won 14 games or more 6 times.
JESSE GONDER: Gonder played 8 MLB seasons as a catcher and pinch hitter, enjoying his best season in 1964 when he hit .270 in 131 games.
JOHN BOOZER: Pitched 7 years as a reliever, all with the Phillies.
