I have always thought poppies to be a prolific selfseeding annual but these plants survive winters here in WA and it gets below 10 degrees sometimes. they do produce a lot of seeds as well.
@jessicaedenfield507 Poppies are annuals, but they produce so many seeds that if you just let them fall naturally, you have an almost 100% guarantee that more will grow the next year
I've grown them in pots on the deck at our old house there was no yard space, I would bring the pots into the basement or garage, which ever had more room, wrap them in black garbage bags pot and all, with opening at top, tie it loosely so you can still give them some moisture, do not stack them, water once a month or everyother depending on size of pot, and would put them out early spring still in place with good dose of water, it much like wintering over other things, i had a hard time finding poppies then thats y i did it that way i dont now but it is well worth the effort :)
wow- they are pretty but for me they come up everywhere and seem to always survive our winters- I started with only one tiny plant 22 years ago that was in with a lavender plant my dad dug up and gave me for my first garden at my new home. now they are almost like dandelions but I do love them.
