Description

The listing, ** INDIANA GEODES ** SMALL BOX FULL! has ended.

In honor of Earth Day, I offer you something I normally never part with - my GEODES! My collection of Indiana Geodes are all shapes, sizes, colors and have a wide variety of crystals inside. I collected all of these myself and love love love them very much, but am willing to share a few. :-)

The pix are just as I brought them in, muddy and need of a wash. Some will be whole, some will be broken with crystals and minerals exposed, some will be very small and a few could be as big as a baseball… or bigger! I will post pix of clean ones and start adding to the box in the tomorrow.

I also have some Ocean Floor Fossil Stone. If you are interested, leave a comment when you bid so I can add some!

I will start with 5 nice geodes and for every 100 credits bid, I add 2 more until the limit on USPS box is reached. I won’t fill up the box just for fun, YOU need to bid to keep adding them. Bid low and you get a box with a few stones and lots of bubble wrap. Bid HIGH and you will get a box FULL of a variety of AWESOME Geodes including some with crystals! Geodes can contain Crystal Quartz, Calcite, Amethyst, Citrine, Smithsonite, Jasper, Hematite, Marcasite, etc. You never know unless you open them!!

-I have TWO auctions like this, Small and Medium. This is the SMALL!! Bid on one or both, but get in on it NOW as I highly doubt I will EVER repeat this!!

PLEASE READ!
-You MUST be verified. If you aren't and don't get verified within 7 days of bidding/winning, or don't follow other Listia rules, I will relist and keep the points.
-If you don't reply CORRECTLY on the AUCTION LINK within 7 days, I will relist and keep the points. YOU must click on the Send Address button IN the auction and contact ME with your name, email and address using the auction link ONLY. This is both a Listia rule and my rule. OMG, and if you wanna talk fossils and teeth,, bones, etc.... I am the Raptor Queen! I have many Raptor specimens that I personally dug up in the most Southern Utah, and you have no idea how much I want to get more from the ocean, or sea floor!!!!! Yup , it's one of my degrees, Science, Chemistry, i had 4 majors and at 51 am almost done with Gemology schooling! Had to get away from 30 years of Medical Practice...

My best friend just moved to SLC and I am hoping to get a chance to get out there and do some mining and digging! We don't have dinosaur fossils here (because it was a giant shallow ocean - that is why this is the Limestone capital of the world, and why we have so many Geodes!) and I sure wish we did!! Finding a coral fossil makes my day like you would not believe - Oh how I would LOVE to find a dinosaur or a tooth or something like that! One of these days I am going to risk life, limb and arrest and nab some of the shale from the road cuts - they often contain fish or foliage fossil imprints... and I am itching to find some!!! Nice to meet another rock hound! I studied Geology too and am slowly slowly learning some decent lapidary skills. Need a big ole saw to slice a few of these Geodes with!!!
Thanks for being here!!!

OH HONEY< YOU ARE SINGING MY SONG!!!!! I dig Utah (my home) and go to Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Arizona and california in search of my stones I cut and polish myself...the guys who I do this with go to Brazil , Madagascar, stc and bring back amazing specimens!!! I am sorry for your troubles, I sure can sympathize... and I feel like if you're parting with these sweet hearts they need to go somewhere to a home who knows how to care for , open, dig and prepare properly, and make them shine as bight as the stars!!!! That would be my 150 years (well close) of experience and I would make you proud to know they are being properly dealt with and very loved.... xoxoxoxo

Just for fun, I thought I would share some photos of the REST of my gem / mineral collection... Well, at least a good portion of it. The collection has grown, almost doubled since I took these photos a few years ago. NOTHING in these photos is available for adopting - these are mine - just thought you might like a look. Enjoy!!

Well then you love it, that's what! lol. I have cabinets full of gems from all over the world and they are just about the best thing one could collect and adore if you ask me. Geodes are just cool, unbroken or not. Millions and Millions of years old and I find them in all different phases of erosion. Many have crystal points but others have transformed into Jasper or Calcite or some other gem/mineral. Some might have points big enough to break off and make a wrapped necklaces with but I personally would never break a crystal off... I hesitate to even crack em with a hammer!!! (But am saving for a lapidary saw so I can make cool slices!) I hope this answers your question... Win the auction and you can see for yourself how awesome these stones are! ;-)

Hi! I suppose I could ship to Canada... I don't know what the cost would be but I wouldn't think it would be that much more. If you know how to figure it (or have a website that will do it for you), it would be coming from 47421 USA. But if you can handle the shipping costs, whatever they may be, I am more than glad to send these beauties to you! Good luck bidding!!

Very kool!I grew up in Mass. and I don't recall seeing any geodes ,but there is a lot of quartz ,mica, and various odds n' ends from the glaciers that brought all kinds of other rocks down.Good luck!!

Hello and Thanks for watching and looking at my collection. The stones you are referring to are called Cave Pearls and they are extremely extremely rare. It took me a year to pay for the 3 that in the photo! Today there are very strict laws about how, when, where and by whom they are collected which adds to the rarity of them and the general lack of knowledge about them. But they are AWESOME!! They form when the water drips off a stalactite and forms a puddle in the mud floor and the minerals (calcium, calcite, etc) start to form layers around a grain of sand or whatever, the same way oyster pearls are made more or else, hence the name, and if there is enough water they roll around which it what makes them so round, although egg shape happens too. Some have dents where they had laid against one another, others have a small bump or two but not usually. Sometimes they are very fragile and can not be touched or moved and other times they are harder than hard, like the ones I have. It is awesome to see photos of them still in the caves - they look like eggs in a birds nest! One of my most favorite gem/mineral EVER. I just love them! You wouldn't believe how lovely they are to hold and just generally be amazed at their age and how they were formed. But maybe that's just me. lol! :-)

That it can rain and you find so many more geoodes??? Here in utah usa we only have plain rock, mostly granite. Lol. Every so often we get tje luck of finding a geoed, bit it isnot common....

Hi! I wish I could do free shipping on this but just can't this time. We are in Southern Indiana and always have good luck finding gems here (varies what depending no the part of the state you are in) but the heavy rains washed out some of the roads, part of our driveway and part of our yard. And I thought I was finding a lot Geodes before... Now they are EVERYWHERE! lol... Surely there are cool stones in Utah, just maybe stuff you have to actually mine for, like Aquamarine or Opal. I've have found a few Geodes that look very much like Opal but it doesn't make seen geographically so it probably isn't. I have no idea what it is though, just pretty!
Thanks for watching and commenting and Good Luck if you decide to bid!!

I wrapped it in a cloth and tapped it lightly. It was medium in size. I was so exciting and my firs time. Kind of like finding a treasure lol. Oh cool... maybe I will pick one and try that! What do the white crystal look like? Are they point and pretty solid/hard to the touch? Or are they kinda square or flakey / fragile?? The first could be Quartz and the latter might be Calcite. or ??? I have found a few that the interiors look bubbly, like soap bubble... like the stone Smithsonite. But I have NO idea if that is what it is or not!! Gonna have to take a few of those to the rock hound club meeting and find out!!

Tunakush, these are Southern Indiana Geodes and stone. The heavy spring rains washed out half my yard and most of our roads and ditches in our lil community - but also exposed all these great stones!! I can find more than I can carry at this point but they are gonna roll on down into the lake if I don't gather them up!

What a wonderful auction!!! This is one i didn't think i'd ever see. I have collected gem stones for years and have a few geodes. They are very hard to come by here in Washington state. This would be my greatest of all finds in my 75 years if i am lucky enough to win. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful things. I would bid on the other auctions if i knew how to find them. just to let you know .. I use a standard wet tile saw to cut my rocks, I'm not sure how much they cost in Indiana but I bet you can find one on craigslist, a pawn shop or ebay for less than $80 .. or you can rent one from Home Depot.
you can also use a dremel, just make sure you use a diamond cutting disk and cut slowly
there are a lot of video's on youtube that are about geodes and geode cutting too.. you might wanna check them out, some of them are WOW amazing beautiful in so many way's
May 12th, 2014 at 8:50:24 PM PDT by
Original
Hey there, I wondered if you were still here!! I may take a dremel to one some time - would love to make some of the smaller ones into jewelry. But I would never never suggest anyone try to cut a Geode with a regular tile wet saw. It would be very dangerous because the rock is lumpy and round (tiles are flat and super easy to cut) and unless you build some sort of jig to hold it VERY VERY tightly, it will slip out of your hand as you are pushing it towards the blade. The blade could break and the stone could shatter every which direction. My research emphasized just how dangerous it would be to use that kind of saw for this. One main thing is that the blade is too short and the wrong kind. You might be able to do a small Geode with that blade size and you run into the danger of being too close to the blade. Lapidary saws use oil to lubricate the stone and the oil recirculates through the machine and you can strain and reuse it, which is good because you would use thousands of gallons of water to finish even a small stone and create a small pond in the process. The water spray would keep you from seeing what is going on. It's not worth the risk or mess if you ask me! I did see on Ebay plans to build your own lapidary saw (cost for plans $60, cost of material - I have no idea) and that is more than likely what I will do sometime in the next year, if I can't find a good used one near by. Please nobody try a tile saw - the very thought scares me!! I wouldn't want you to lose an eye or finger!! :-) I TOTALLY agree with you on the beauty and wonderfulness of opened ones with gems and minerals in them though! I wish you guys could see my entire collection (the ones washed and in cabinets)... you would trip out!!! lol

would you possibly consider an auction for just one really big one (like base ball size or bigger) that rattles a lot when you shake it ? I really want to see first hand what happens when one is opened. I have one that is golf ball size but it is heavy & does not rattle-I think it is solid-I have no way of cutting it. lol

May 7th, 2014 at 8:40:03 AM PDT by

Hi, thanks for watching and for commenting! I'm sorry but no, I can't share any rattlers. I have only found TWO small ones and so that makes them unbelievable rare in my eyes and I don't think I could bring myself to part with them. I am not going to open them up either - I will just let it be a mystery!!

I might be convinced to do a smaller auction with larger ones - maybe. I still have buckets full to wash and sort. So maybe... I will have to weigh some of the big ones and see what they really weigh.

See if there is a Rock Hound club in your town and join up!!! Someone there probably has a saw for sale or would do some cutting for a small fee. That is what I am going to do because I would like some slices from some of the solid ones (maybe make a counter top with them...) but the saws are very expensive and moderately dangerous. lol. So I will find someone to cut for me for now and save up for a saw and polisher of my own.
