The listing, "Horse" Original Drawing by Lucy Baker has ended.
This is a drawing I did of a horse from memory. I've been drawing horses all of my life, or at least about 50 years. That's me in my teens training a horse , but my interest in horses started at about age four (see pic #3). I do many other types of art , too, painting , and also sculpture. My work can be found on the internet. Just google my name,(i'm the one in CT) I also paint abstract , and I do portraits of people and animals, too.
Questions & Comments
Wow you also sculpt that is awesome. You are very very talented, but i dont have to tell you that youvalready know that. I hope onedy my son can sell his work for a living. He already has a teacher in the high school that want to buy all of his impressions art what ever that is i dont know. So maybe he will be ok. It was great talking to you I hope you sell much more of your work. Maybe one day youll put a sculpture on here to bid . Have a great evening.
That's great his teacher is so encouraging! But he should have a back up plan since art is fairly unstable as a career choice . The average artist in the USA today makes less than $10000 a year. So,unless he takes off like a shot, he should learn the basics of Graphic design, architecture or some other trade to rely on especially if he thinks he'll ever need to support a family. I've known extremely successful artists , and great ones who bare survive. One of my friends builds swimming pools to survive (he only works at that about 6 months a year, then the other 6 he's got $ to paint and pay for his family and home.). If he plans to only do art , living in NYC is a huge plus (or a big city like LA or Boston,Chicago, ect) I'm crazy to live in the sticks, but I hate big cities!! I only like to visit for the day, Lol!! I'm thinking I may do some small sculptures too, But it is very expensive to make and a storage problem for large scale pieces. You can see some maquettes I did on my Faebook page(Lucy Baker, artist)
Thanks for your nice comments, I do appreciate them! And best of luck to your son!! It's a tough "row to hoe " as they say , but I can't imagine doing anything else! Well, there were 2 other things I would have possibly been , one was an archaeologist, I love digging for things!! Haha!! I do clamming on the side and a little "treasure hunting" at the beach! I would have loved to have been a ballet dancer , but my feet turn in , not out! Haha!! Gymnastics would have been great , I imagined myself another Olga Korbut, and I would be finished by now if I'd done any of those three, my knees are no good! Lol! So my best and right choice was being an artist.I still can do it and as long as my eyes and hands and brain hold up, I'll just keep on going! what is interesting is how much of the art I made at your son's age is now selling!! One sculpture I did hen I was a little older than he is , I saw recently resold at a store in NYC for $6500.I had just seen it posted and withing 2 hours it was gone!! (I should have gotten residuals , Lol!!
Thanks Joy!!Nice of you to say!! "Searing Sun" just sold (The sunrise pic in black and white paint) I was getting worried! Lol!It was on for a while! I guess it just had to find the right home! My computer won't post pics right now, so as soon as I can get it fixed I'll post more, but it maybe a while, yet. (I've lost my "E" drive! and the computer is not recognizing my printer! ). Glad you like this painting!
