I also have a dog and cats. I have tested this several times to ensure working order, and it is great at picking up animal hair. It picks up hair that I miss with my upright vacuum.

Have had two, want another but the wet vac type this time. Roomba's will go over any surface, transition to another type surface, and keep cleaning till it's charge runs out, then it sits and beeps at you to come rescue it. "If" it gets hung up on a throw rug, it will respond in the same manner, sit and beep a while, then just waits till you come to the rescue. Other models will return to their charging station and plug themselves back in. All Roomba's come with the virtual walls, which you put batteries in and sit at a doorway, or wall, some area you do not want the Roomba to venture into. They have auto sensors which stop them from going off the top stair, bumpers which make them backup and turn a few degrees to go around any obsticle. They will clean while you are doing something else more pleasant, do every floor they can get to, with an internal mapping program keeping track of area done, and go over rugs to bare floors, hard wood, and under anything higher than the sensor button on it's top, it may push your lost sock from under the bed, and find the hidden cheese slice Jimmy left for later. I truly innovative product, and greatly appreciated by all who own one, pet lovers high on that list for hair removal and friendliness. There is a new model which you can schedule, to take off and do it's chores while you are away, at work, groceries, or while on vacation, weekly day by day time to clean settings. A very happy camper, also will pick up heavy patio debris, even small stones, dirt and leaves, just don't desert them outside, they don't like getting wet.

This is the first vacuum I have used in front of my cat that doesn't have them running 2 states over in fear lol. They will actually just sit and watch it

Those are virtual walls. You can set them up to keep the Roomba from going in a particular area.

I have one and it still spooks my shepherd, they see vacuums as vacuums and that they are noise to pets. These are great though. I wish I had another one.

My upright scares the bejesus out of my cats, they won't even stay in the same room as it. Although the noise from this small one does make them a little uneasy, they can at Least be in the same room as this one. Lol
