Avengers Time Slide (Marvel Alternate Universe Edition)

This one-shot comic is the pivotal chapter in the Avengers storyline “The Crossing.” In it, Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, sends the Avengers back in time to recruit the help of a younger version of himself in battling Kang the Conqueror and his Anachronauts. At the conclusion of this storyline, it would be the younger, less jaded Tony Stark who assumes the mantle of today’s Iron Man.

The fun part to this book is that the Avengers have traveled to a time just preceding the start of the “Marvel Universe.” As a result, readers get to see some of the more popular characters before their lives were changed and they took up hero identities.
