The listing, WARNING ABOUT COLORED ROSES FROM SEED!! FAKE SCAM FAKE THIS IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY!! has ended.

This auction will win you nothing except the free advice below. Watch or comment so I know my message is being heard Please!!!
Ok, I've been seeing this one around for a while, now, and I've been my usually anal self in letting folks know that you cannot grow black, royal-purple, blue or rainbow roses from seed. In fact, these roses do not even exist, except as dyed versions you can get in the florist's shops. But, people are ignorant, just starting out with gardening (like I'm any kind of expert), know nothing about how roses "work". The odds of a seed plant even closely resembling a parent plant is 1%!!!
Sometimes it is an honest misinformed seller but Generally, it's an honest customer who wants to grow their own roses from seed as a challenge who is the target of these fraudulent sellers. These people are scam-artists, only out to take your money. And the truly sad thing about their scams is; they're working. No buyer will be able to do more than complain and warn their friends because, one, the seeds likely won't germinate. And two, if they do get a plant for their effort, they'll have to wait up to three years before the bush is mature enough to bloom before they see they were rooked well and truly. No way to get your refund, then.
Another note that many folks might not realize: roses are persnickety things and are the divas of the plant world. Only under certain, very specific conditions will you get a seed to germinate.
I sank 3000 Credits into 20 Rainbow seeds Last week and I will post a follow up on whether they will even grow and perhaps 3 years from now if any bloom but I know if on some severely slim chance they do they will likely be a shade of pink or mauve like their wild ancestors. Hybrids can only be replicated by cuttings, so if someone gives you seeds from there rose there is a 100% guarantee yours will be different. Please be warned.
Thank you and God Bless you and your Families!

Hey girl---I worked for a plant nursery for 3 years, and you are CORRECT all the way!!!!!!!!! Not only scams on "ROSE SEEDS", but on MANY SEEDS!! Let's face it---people can SAY anything they want--"FRESH SEEDS" "OFF MY MATURE PLANTS" THIS YEAR'S SEEDS"---anything and everything. I have TRIED seed auction several times--just to SEE. I have yet to have one single SEED come up from an auction I have won!! NOT ONE. All I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BIDDING!! Makes me ANGRY---for those of us who are HONEST and try HARD to show folks EXACTLY what we are auctioning---and allow the BUYER make the decision to bid or NOT. These little childish games and SCAMS are HORRIBLE!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! GOOD JOB GIRL!!

I sell seeds and I hand test the viability of every batch of seeds I sell, and always include extras for duds. I have also bought seeds off here and have had plenty of luck with viability. That is just on the basic annuals and common perennials though.
I have yet to get any iris, hibiscus, rose, tulip or iris seeds to even sprout. Now I grow Amaryllis and I can get those to grow from seed, but it is a several year wait for blooms, but I hand select the thickest ones for viability and trash the rest. I wonder if the people selling them take the time to do that?? Of course I would never claim them to be one style or another as I am not sure how true to type they actually are. A girl I deal with regular sent some bonus seeds to my mom that happened to be rose seeds, so maybe I can report on those in a few years...LOL.

I agree. I research every single auction before I bid on it. Sometimes I myself buy rose and hibiscus seeds, but it is just for the joy of growing from seeds.

BTW Your name sounds terribly familiar.

most of the "multicolored" rose seeds are actually white rose seeds, I have been snorting and warning folks off an on for years... FYI apple seeds are like that too, in that they do not grow a tree true to the mother tree, but a mutation that may or may not have an apple similar to the parent, sometimes the offspring are extremely different or even sour or bitter from a sweet parent apple :)

oh, and the so called black roses ? really a dark purple when grown in sun, only black if grown in the shade--- where most roses just die :(

Let us not forget hibiscus too. You will most likely never get a parent match. Just some traits but not all. You will get some new variety, different in each seed. Maybe ugly brown flowers or beautiful multi colored. A gamble on these too.

I did not know that about hibiscus, I have been collecting hibiscus seed and starting different varieties, hope I get something good :)

Yeah that is a cool thing about it. If you get a good one you can name it and show it too.
I just think people spend too much to get something they see in a pic which is not true and misleading.
I am planting 5 today. There is like a 1 in 4 chance I will get something pretty worth keeping! God luck with yours!

do you know if it is ALL hibiscus (saving the rose of sharon) that do not breed true ? I have seeds for many varieties ( Abelmoschus manihot, lavatera/rose mallow, mutabilis, sabdariffa, trionum, plus a bunch of different colors of rose of sharon/syriacus) it would be nice to know which ones do not breed true. I am mostly trying to grow the ones which have edible leaves and flowers, or that are used for teas. :)

Original
Let me research all you have listed but I am pretty confident rose of sharon is the only one true to parent....Most of the time.

Wow so the food coloring thing doesn't work?

I am not sure about the whole food coloring-dye process, but that is the only way you can get a rainbow rose. SO as far as I know the food coloring thing does work. It is just the seeds I am warning about here.
Thank you!!

OMG, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that sees this and is being driven NUTS by it! You can grow roses by seeds (I have a father who has a Master's in Biology and I took two years of horitculture, so we play with plants a lot), but it takes having a greenhouse, sterile environment, understanding how to clip stamens and pollenate with the desired roses, so there is a TON of work to doing this from seeds, just like trying to grow apples from seeds! That is why we graft, you take an unwanted plant that is hardy and graft the rose or apple of choice onto it. I hate to see people getting ripped off, so I am glad that you posted this! LOL, give the winning bidder a printout about roses and how they are grown. Education is worth the points!

I am about to get my greenhouse!!! So thrilled. I am going to get my rose growing skills tweaked a little bit more before I start handing out advice on growing them. LOL. You probably know more than I do. I am just a back woods country girl with a hobby, and 28 acres of land to beautify!! I have always been curious about what these rainbow seeds would turn out to be, so I bid on some. Funny thing is I just got some seeds mailed in with some Bonus Rainbow rose seeds. SO now I have 15 more. Guess I will send some home with my mama and she can try her luck with them too.

Yes, there are some gorgeous roses out there. Any ones that you see are attached to a bush are carefully and painstakingly bred, but if that rose goes to seed, you will not get the same plant from seeds. The roses you can buy are almost limitless. Of course the rainbows are not yet something on a living plant, and eventually maybe someone will figure it out. Just saying if you see something you like, take a cutting and root it, or buy pay for the actual plant.
Kids will be kids. People should be a bit more understanding.
Thank you for your comments!!

I have never ever had any luck in growing roses bought as dormant plants make it past the second year!~They no matter what or where I plant them I read and read and still never succeed! They always get black spot although I spray for it and never over water them they still won't grow! So now I stick to my Miss Kim Lilac my rhododendron, my rose mosses, oh and I always had super luck with the miniature carnations but when we left OKC to come back to NE Ohio I did not bring them back with me for I had become disabled and was unable to dig them up to bring them back here again. I miss having them but am not able to find any of them anymore. It is like they just disappeared on me and it was my favorite! But I also have lots of daisies the shasta ones and a large lilac bush and well all sorts of them. I also received thru here seeds and some were from a flower I was not familiar with called a moon vine and they are from seeds and now about 5 inches and time to plant outside and just found out I cannot plant them in the back where I am at because no one told me before hand that they were poisonous and I have a little as you see to the left pomeranian who gets into everything so now I have to not get to see the lovely plant because I am not allowed to go out front unless my husband is home with me...the meany! I am glad to know not to fall for the roses thing and the others you all mention! If anyone at all knows where I can get miniature carnations from please send me a message for I have searched all of here and all of ebay to no avail. So if you do , thank you in advance! Have a lovely and blessed weekend!
Happy Days :)

I will look for them. I love moonflowers. I am pretty sure if they are the moonflowers with the big oval roundish seeds only the seeds are poisonous whereas the datura moonflowers are totally poisonous. The first type you just keep them dead headed and they should be fine. Of course only if hubby were willing to do that for you.
God Bless you and your family including that little fuzz ball too!! Adorable little one!
