The listing, Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato Squash - a Great Heirloom has ended.
Here's a great heirloom squash variety - for those of you who are looking for something a bit different. I've been wanting to grow this for about 4 years now - and finally got some seeds! The nice folks at Sandhill Preservation Center sent me lots of seeds, so I'm sharing some!
Here's what they say about it at Seed Saver's Exchange: "Family heirloom from Thelma Sanders in Adair County, Missouri. Wonderful cream-colored acorn squash. Sweet chestnut flavor, enormously productive. Our favorite two-serving baking squash. 85-90 days."
The customer reviews on various seed sites say that it is tasty, with incredibly vigorous (tree climbing: that will give the deer a workout!) vines, and sets dozens of fruits - can't wait to see how it does here!
ALSO: the baby squash can be eaten as a sweet & tasty summer squash (looking forward to trying them!) - and these plants are said to be so prolific that you can have it both ways: eat your squash & keep it too -- properly stored the mature squash will keep on the shelf til February.
