I love old currency. Shows so much history into it.
This really does for people my age and older, some of the younger people don't have any idea what the U.S. went through. There are very few veterans of this war left, my dad left this earth 2 years ago at the age of 94, He was a very young man when he joined the service/
Japanese pasos! I had no idea there was ever such a thing. I know the have pesos in the Phillippines but have never seem these! Were they some kind of government script? Before they went back to using yen?? Very interesting & must have been used during the occupation of Japan! Hmmm!! Got to read up on this! Thanks for sharing Rose!!!
Yes that is what happened, The Japanese needed money to pay their troops and to buy what was needed so they issued their own money in paper pasos , the locals called this "Mickey Mouse Money". I had to read up on it also when I found these, it is very interesting reading, Of course I Googled it, . Don't worry about calling me Rose, at this stage in my life I worry about remembering my own name.
You must be one of the younger generation that did not live through World War 2, The Japanese Army had Occupied the Philippines during the war, they had to have money to pay their army and buy goods because the people of the Island did not take Yens so they printed their own paper pasos and issued them to their army that is why there are pasos issued by the Japanese . The island people called it "Mickey Mouse Money". After the war I guess a lot of our Army kept them as something to remember those hard times.
Our fathers were both part of a generation that helped this country when it needed help. We should honor both of them even when some forget that men died for what freedom we have today, I salute your father for his work.
A salute to your dad...mine was also in WWII (US Army Air Corp and later OSS) also passed on....Sadly soon...no more of the Greatest Generation will be with us.....
