sheridanayers is correct. You can cut it back severely now and have plenty to auction off. Repot and keep watering it, summer it outdoors if you have a protected deck or porch and watch it resprout like crazy!

It is a Large angel wing begonia and has nice flowers. I have one of these and also have the miniature angel wing begonia. It is just like the big one only small. Good Luck! They are pretty tough plants. NOT HARDY weatherwise, just tough enough to take the pruning and come back real nice!!!

Thanks so much:) I will be taking your advice. Is it better to prune it now, or in the fall?

Hi, I don't know as much as you'all do, and I have enjoyed reading your comments, so I just wanted to share what little I know. The Angel Wing Begonia is a hybrid Begonia which came about from a cross between a Begonia aconitifolia and a Begonia conccinea. Hybridization was made by California plant breeder Eva Kenworthy Gray in 1926. Enjoyed sharing what I know about this beauty of a gem, If I don't win, I'll just have to go out and buy me one. Enjoy

Already your fan. Watching, & probably bidding. Can this be planted outside? Or inside only? Did your plant grow like that from just a clipping? I'm not real hip on planting. I don't know much at all. It's very beautiful, & I'm interested!

How will you send it in the mail to make sure that it arrives undamaged? Almost every time I try to get plants thru the mail they are moldy, dried out or just plain dead.

everything I've ever gotten in the mail still lives... it will be packaged carefully and using common sense. Sounds like you've had some bad luck though.

Hi there.! Jus wanted to confirm with a few others here and being that I worked green houses for years that this plant you have for auction is a Angel Wing Begonia, can get up to 5 feet tall, pending pot size and quality of dirt & fertilizer. To my knowledge there are two colors: red/pink and white. I prefer the dark pink/red. Excellent choice for an auction. I tried to fan you, but the site tells me I am at my limit for now. If you will, please put me on your reminder list when you go to take another cutting. If your plant is of good size like 3 feet or taller, you will not hurt the plant by taking 2 or 3 cuttings at one time, but I also understand you want to keep the plant looking like it ha fullness to it. IM me, I would like to buy a few pieces if I may, but please let me know your price, then I can let you know and pay you PayPal or consealed cash in an envelope. Or I sometimes go thru Cleveland. I am near Conneaut, OH, but actually live in Albion, PA. Good luck with your auction(s), always nice to see a variety of things and great for me with you being a so, so near local neighbor....lol. Blessed Be.!

Yep! You can cut this down now. And as someone else said, it will root quickly in good old water!

I worked at a major greenhouse here in Texas (years ago) and what everyone is saying is totally correct!! That is exactly what this baby needs----I used to do it all the time, and she will be fine and look 100% BETTER. Cut WAYYYYYYYYYYY back--larger pot--gentle amount of Miracle Grow--more in a couple months. You have done a great job--but with all that---you WILL be AMAZED!! And the good thing is, you can root the cuttings in water (without fear you have damaged MAMA) and make a TON of points!! Good Luck~~F & W!!

I have one of these. It is the angel wing begonia-but yours, I hate to say, needs some TLC, the leaves actually can get huge like 2 "angel wings", normally together. I would re-pot this right away, it needs more root room than the pots it's shown in. After this fall, I would suggest for you to cut it all the way back. This will encourage it to grow more bushier and it will reach up to 5 foot, next spring. Mine did last summer after mistakably getting it broken down to the soil in a move. When I posted these, they went like hotcakes on here-still have people begging for more of it. Also feed it some miracle grow or some kind of plant food.
