Thank you i love amethyst but prefer natural over heat treated stones/ crystals most of the time
May 14th, 2014 at 1:28:49 PM PDT by
Original
For sure! I totally agree with you when it comes to natural and genuine! I would take unpolished over polished any day and I don't care for the heat treated/ lab enhanced processes either. Many people are not aware that much of the Citrine on the market is Amethyst that has been heated.

Okay so won't break into 1 million pieces once it starts being cut into
May 14th, 2014 at 7:02:46 PM PDT by
Original
It won't crumble into pieces. It is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness- same category as Quartz. I'd caution a person to cut this one/ ones in this form- small crystals. You would be better off buying a large point and cutting that.

I am skeptical about the stones origin. All of Canada's amethyst is commercially mined in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The mine is owned by a company called Precious Purple Gemstones Ltd. The mine goes by the name of Amethyst Mine Panorama. The company also holds the mineral rights to the stone. The company does not allow the general public on site due to insurance and security reasons. Wholesale gem buyers have to contact the company directly and arrange for a secure viewing or purchase stones online. No one unless they are an employee is allowed to mine the stones. It is against the law for an employee to take a stone from the mine and sell it themselves, unless they purchase the stone. There is usually a paper trail to document such purchases. . Canada also has strict regulations about how many carats of amethyst can be imported into the USA without facing a lot of customs fees. The amount of amethyst in several 5 gallon pails would require special permits and a staggering amount of customs fees. There would also be a paper trail with documentation for that. Gem mining, especially in Canada, is very hard grueling work. There are not many women who are physically able to put up with that kind of labor required to actually mine the stones. Those that would be able to would have to have the muscle mass similar to Olympic athletes. Do you have paperwork to document the stones importation into the USA? If so. please scan or take a photo of it and post it. Also, can you document legal mining of the stone ?

You are 100% incorrect!!! This Amethyst is from a mine north of Panorama Mine. I personally went in 2008 and stayed at Dog Lake. I went to the Panorama Mine and it was extremely overpriced to collect or buy anything from the gift store. The mine I collected all my Amethyst from in 2008 was operated by a retired man who lives in MN and works his mine during the summers. It's a small scale mine operated by one man. I have huge amazing Red Amethyst Crystals I found there.

I don't know the Amethyst situation as of current. I am sure people can still go to collect fee mines like the one I was at. Amethyst is an established commodity in Thunder Bay.

I'm not sure why you are trying to discredit my auction... The rocks and crystals I post are literally where I say I obtained them. I have fun sharing my collections. I have met many awesome people while on Listia. I have a total blast finding specimens and going into mines. I get personal satisfaction from sharing my rocks, crystals, and knowledge with others. I only collect from legal mines. I absolutely do not trespass because I respect others as a land owner myself!

I could easily sell my rocks and crystals to several shop owners. I choose to share parts of my collection on Listia. My auctions with all the detailed information speak for themselves! No need to visit and comment on my auctions as you don't believe my words. I don't hide/ make up information if I don't know something about a listed piece. Take care!

By the way- that is actually me in the profile photo. I am not an Olympian, however I am in shape.

Panorama IS open to the public. There is an internet site that shows and states this. They charge visitors to "tour" the mine and collect Amethyst. The customer is then charged a fee per lb. of Amethyst collected pail.

Customs didn't require any additional fees or paperwork in 2008.
