The Fishtail Selenite Crystal measures approximately 3" x 3/4" x 1/4". It is transparent with a slight gray tone. It's called Fishtail Selenite (also Angel Wings Selenite) because it is a twinned crystal, a variety of Gypsum. The twin plane runs down the center looking like a fish tail.

Fishtail Selenite have interesting inclusions that can accompany them like copper, interior druse, dendrites, fossils and/ or water!

This Fishtail Selenite has pronounced internal inclusions. It looks like the top (ear) of wheat, fish bone or feather. The outside of the crystal is iridescent in areas showing off an array of colors like a rainbow. The photographs don't do this crystal justice. They were taken during a storm.

This Fishtail Selenite came from a collection that spanned over 40 years and remained untouched from the 1980's until now!

Fishtail Selenite is easy to handle. It is not made of the thin Calcite "fibers" like its relation, Spar Selenite. It is a soft mineral (Mohs- 2).

Fishtail Selenite was used in the windows of Santa Sabina, Rome, one of the oldest Christian churches in the world. See the last photo for reference only.
