Beautiful 10+ tall vines all summer. Purple/pink and white flowers cover the vine which hummingbirds love. In fall the beans appear - shinny, purple beans that are stunning fall color.

I googled this since I have never ate them: Q: Are hyacinth beans actually edible beans or just seeds?

A: They're edible in theory, but they're so hard, starchy and blah-tasting that who'd want to?

Save a few of these lima-sized seeds to plant next May. Or else just watch for seedlings to pop up on their own and move them when little to get a brilliant new purple show next season.

When cooked properly they are really yummy :) We love them here :) Just don't overwater the seedlings.. my kids killed my entire crop this year (hence me looking here for more).. :( Even the pods are edible :)
