Hand fasting ropes are used in the marriage ceremony. This is a Pagan, Wiccan or Celtic tradition. In the 1700's it was declared by the king that people could only be married in the church. Poor people or common people could not afford this. So that had friends and family witness their union by tying the knot. The tie that binds. It is funny back then the rope was not untied until the union was consummated. Today it is used as a beautiful symbol of unity. Thanks for asking.

We had our handfasting last year and I filet crocheted 9ft of lace in a triple moon pattern. I have friends who are starting to plan their handfasting . If I win this, it will be for them. :)
