June is a big month for Alzheimer's awareness. I will be participating in 2014 The Longest Day put on by the
Alzheimer's Association.

My mission is to bring as much awareness as I can to this deadly disease and to do my part to help make the wheels of progress turn a little faster for my family & your family. The bookmarks symbolize one of the beautiful amentities we are afforded in life, our senses.

I have noticed, in the more recent stage my father is in,
who was diagnosed with Alheimer's Disease years ago, that he will have a conversation with me through a book or some other reading material nearby.
His ability to read is deteriorating, and soon our
conversations will be random words, picked out of the air, which is very close to our conversations today.
It is almost as if the words he sees in a book or a magazine or even a prayer card he finds laying around the house, is his security, the ability to express something, anything, knowing or not knowing that he can't express things on his own terms anymore.

Reading entertains us, it educates us, and it is something that is easily taken for granted.

To once have the ability to do so many things, and then in a flash, to have that all taken away, it is an unfair playing field, this disease.

Please join me in spreading awareness. Together, we CAN make a difference and be a part of something that could someday save any one of the people we care about and love.
