Winged Liberty Head Dime- also known as Barber Dime or Silver Mercury Dime with S (San Francisco) mint mark on back. This dime is commonly referred to as a Mercury dime, due to confusion of Winged Liberty for the god, Mercury, who also wore a winged cap.
This coin was graded by Littleton Coin Company in "Fine" condition.
These dimes were minted between 1916 and 1945, when the Treasury ordered that the design be changed to depict Franklin Roosevelt. They are composed of 90% silver and 10% copper.
Questions & Comments
hello my friend that is a very nice dime. with all due respect I just figured I'd let you know that that is in fact a Mercury dime a barber dime is the one that came before it... It is always good to learn something new. I try to learn something new everyday and believe me a lot of people have taught me things on this website and I am a professional coin collector. I figured I would just try and help you out a bit with some information. I will be watching in bidding on this also and if I am NOT already a fan I will do so now please fan me back thank you!
Thank you for the clarification, I may have confused the history a bit based on the collector coin books I've read, fines aren't my main interest, I usually collect Morgan Dollars.
