It is in excellent condition--it only has a couple of dings to the wood(see 3rd picture).

How it works is this: when you turn it over, the tiny metal balls stick to the top--then they gradually fall down and hit the chimes--like a delicate wind chime sound.
I saw a couple of these on ebay--I was surprised what people are asking for them. This is a rare and beautiful item

So, how long does the sound last from the time you turn it over to the last bead falling approximately?

I really don't know--I've never timed it--quite awhile, and it's never the same length of time--it varies--it's like the Energizer Bunny--it keeps going and going and going. The balls fall at random times.

It is--it's a surprising sound too because it takes so long for the balls to fall that you kind of forget about it until the next one falls. I think this would be very cool to have in a bathroom or spa setting.
