The listing, WOW...GOTTA SEE...Unique Multi Colored Baroque Pearl Necklace has ended.
This is a very colorful strand of cultured freshwater Baroque pearls. No, the mollusks didn't have a party and come up with these colors all on their own....but they did come up with the freshwater pearls with a little help from humans. Like natural pearls, cultured pearls grow inside of a mollusk, but with human intervention. A shell is carefully opened and an object is inserted. Shapes of objects vary, depending on the final shape of pearl that's desired.
Over time the object becomes coated with layers of nacre. The depth of the nacre coating depends on the type of mollusk involved, the water it lives in, and how long the intruder is left in place before being harvested. As nacre thickness increases, so does the quality and durability of the cultured pearl. Freshwater pearls grow inside of a freshwater mollusk — one that lives in a river or a lake."
Cultured pearls are sold by their size in millimeters.
I learned something about pearls while living in Japan. When we came back to the states, there were so many fake "pearl" necklaces that i just didn't enjoy wearing my expensive pearls...and unless you knew how to tell them apart from the fake ones (and if you tried to test them while on someone else's neck you might get slapped) you really couldn't tell which ones were real and which ones were just paste. That is when I decided I like the Baroque pearls the best. They are not as expensive as the perfectly formed ones, but I don't think humans have gotten into making Baroque pearls.
These pearls are "real" cultured pearls. I have tested them myself and know they aren't man made. I didn't say man didn't have a hand in the dying of the pearls, but the pearls definitely came out of a mollusk. I find the shapes, sizes and individuality of the Baroque pearl to be quite interesting. Each pearl has its own unique shape and size and blemishes, with a color to go with just about anything you would want to wear them with. Continued below!!
