The listing, Rare !One of a kind Native American Painting on leather of Tipi in Winter has ended.
In all of my years collecting Native American items, this is the only painting like this I have found. It is painted one leather(buckskin I'd say) with an embroidery hoop holding it taught. The scene is a fire inside a Tipi on a cold winter's night .The warm glow of the fire can be viewed in the close-up pic. It's 6 1/2"x 9 1/2" wide. It is signed or stamped by the artist(I can't tell if it's a painted on signature or stamped like a brand on a cow) .I don't know who the artist is, but I bought it from an old Trading Post store(Frank's) that was next to Foxwoods Casino which was of course the Trading Post store used for years by both The Mashantucket Pequots , Mohegans(and even Narragansetts from RI ,amongst dozens if not hundreds of Tribes who came to CT during the 21 yrs of Schemitzun(The biggest Powwow on the east coast for many yrs.). People came to Frank's and would bring thing's to trade , in exchange he'd make them dance clothes or sell them jingle shells , or feathers, headdresses, shoes , or whatever else they needed.Frank's was a gathering place People traded stories there too, and it was one of my favorite places to go. Frank retired a few yrs back sadly, it was the last true Trading post in New England that I know of.
