Flying Dragon or Trifoliate Orange Poncirus Trifoliata. ~Rare~
~Actual pictures of the mother tree, fruit and seedlings from last year that I planted myself.
~~Auction is for 1 seedling approx. 3" - 6"~~
Keep soil moist until they are a few inches high.. They like direct sunlight, and watering by setting pot in a container with water, and soaking up from the bottom. Mine lived through the winter in SC, outside.
Introduced to the U.S. from Japan in 1915. Highly prized in the Orient, where it has been cultivated for centuries. The dragon is used primarily as rootstock for other Citrus trees. It is also used for hybridization or breeding of other types of Citrus trees.
The contorted branches are mind boggling.
The branches and stem are thorny. Makes a great natural border for the yard, and can be trimmed for hedges.
This is excellent for bonsai as it is a slow grower.
Zones 6-10.
Requires full sun and a well draining soil.
The fruit can be used for flavoring and the skin can be candied.
