Elaine I'd love it! Ticks are bad right now! I'm in Florida and Friday was at Dr. and parked under a tree got a tick I guess it was from the tree....it wasn't in my head when I showered 20 min before and blow dried my hair...while in vehicle I felt it dig in i felt it right away before I got home it was itching....used nail polish remover on cotton to make it back out...I got it with head attached to body but it sure left a nasty scab. I hope you'll get in Dr ASAP and you'll be ok. Edopha sorry for taking over auction lol It's a beautiful Cameo and wish I had credits right now!

I've made my profile pic now of the front of it. I love cameo's it's hard to find a real one that isn't plastic or glued on. Wish I knew more of mine other than my great grandmother owning it....I do know it's old, I'm 50 was great grandmothers who passed before I was born, passed to my grandma then my mom and now me. I agree with Elaine, each one has a story.

Please excuse all my comments, but this auction excites me. Sorry I got so talkative there, but I am passionate about Victorian jewelry.

I took a look at valariepitts cameo and it is definitely mother of pearl and quite rare. Hang on to that one. Do you want to know it's story? Tomorrow I will try to message you in private and reveal a little about your cameo. I was bitten by a tick and have a 4" diameter inflammation circle. Trying to get someone to take me to my Dr. tomorrow. Sooner or later I will tell you and only you.

Through these auctions we learn about each other, form bonds, learn what to bid on and what we are bidding on. This appears to be a 2 part (possibly one material glued to another} cameo up for bid, but pictures are sometimes not easy to judge and very hard to take. This Listian has gone to great effort to show this cameo. Teaches us to do likewise. We learn a little with each auction. This is a great one.

The person who wins this will probably be a dark horse, hiding in the shadows, waiting to pounce the last few minutes.

I'm sorry. I searched for the measurement and all I could find was the cameo in front of a ruler but the chain covered the number so it appears to be about one inch in length/height?? Is that right?? thx

To me it looks like the length of the entire pendant is 2 and 1/8th" and the cameo appears to be 1 and 3/4". That is from my perspective. To be honest, the 25,000 starting bid is reasonable. This cameo might fall under mourning cameo. It looks very nice to me. I had wanted to bid before and did not have enough credits and if I remember correctly when I did have the credits there was a shipping charge which I could not do. Now I am waiting on a few credits, which I will have by Monday. If they get released sooner, well I cannot count on that.

I have one something like this. Was told it was my great grandmothers. The cameo is what seems to be black/silver mother of pearl with a figure of a woman in a dress standing, figure is carved one the same piece with silver around the cameo...the silver has tarnished real bad. The hook on mine for a chain is slightly different...the pin might be the same. I have a markers mark on mine but can't make it out. The cameo is 1 inch long and 3/4 inch wide. I wish I had the credits to bid on this!

I did not see any marks on this. Where is your mark at. Maybe I am not looking in the right places?

At the bottom of the back, look at my profile pic...it's a small box with letters inside it but I can see what letters.

Okay, let the bidding begin! Now all you watchers out there, get of the fence or say goodbye to an interesting piece, which I have not seen before. I am willing to gamble that it will fit in with my extensive collection. The first bid is mine and my credits are now available. I greatly appreciate the free shipping. All cameos are not signed or marked with jeweler identification. Some of the nicest pieces I have seen fall into that category. I have a good feeling about this one. There is a story behind this one. I'd love to hear it. How about you? "Every picture tells a story, don't it?"

At least this cameo has presence and I might attach it to a pretty black satin or black velvet ribbon. So very Victorian. Even some black beading in the style Queen Victoria used in her finest Cameo jewelry creations. By now I am sure everyone knows that a very young Queen Victoria who had her coronation in 1837 revolutionized the jewelry industry wit her love of and designing of her own personal jewelry and jewelry she used as gifts for guests. After the death of her beloved husband, Albert she went into permanent morning wearing only black clothing and black jewelry. It was at this time the black mourning cameo was brought to fruition. Carved from jet. Look up her jewelry. it was unbelievably beautiful.

She remained in black clothing and black jewelry till the day of her death in 1901 at the age of 90. What a remarkable queen. Her history is extensive and she was so involved in solving problems in England. Everyone should read her story if you love antique and vintage jewelry. She started it all. Amazing lady and Queen of Queens, greater than Elizabeth in oh so many ways. This is why this cameo intrigues me. It is so much in the style Queen Victoria would have inspired in the jewelers all over the world who tried to copy her. Emphasis on the word tried. Do I want it and would I appreciate it's uniqueness? YES!
