Yes it works really well in Puerto Rico. It uses satellite for reception.

There are 2 options available from Verizon, you can do a service contract, or pre pay.
I think that prepay is a better option.

Is this prepaid? I'm looking for one of these to bring to Puerto Rico. there is no free Wi-Fi there I've checked all over the place in the stores shopping mall the grocery stores nobody has free Wi-Fi. I know it sounds crazy but they just don't have free Wi-Fi like we do hear. my grandmother said that she would pay for something like this if I were to get it for the time that I am there visiting her. I had another box called FreedomPop it was the mobile hotspot like this one but they don't get service in Puerto Rico. My uncle seems to be the only one that will give out the Wi-Fi password. My grandma she is so stubborn she will rush over to my uncles house but then a few seconds after we get there rush right back home. I tell her to leave me here for a few hours so I can use the Internet but she says no we need to go home now it's going to rain. She always says it's going to rain so I think it's going to rain but then when I get to her house is not raining it could be raining at my uncles house where the Internet is but b clear and sunny with no clouds in sight at her house.

I have a friend who lives in Guaynabo, he has one of these and he told me that he averages 3g speed in peak hours and 4 g lte in the evenings. Hopefully this is helpful, and, helps to eliminate conflicts with the weather between your grandmothers and your uncles residence.
