Food grade lye is used for many foods that may surprise you. The one that is most know to the Norwegian community is the making of lutefisk which literally means Lye fish, it is used in making canned olives, and mandarin oranges. All of the soap in my shop is made by hot process. The main reason for this decision was for my son. When he returned from from Afghanistan, he tried many of my soaps and he broke out in huge welts.
