The listing, Baby Pineapple Plant has ended.
I purchased this plant on Listia two years ago- but the poor thing just wasn't cut out for Alaska's minimal sunlight. So it hasn't fared very well, and I'm hoping to find it a better home (perhaps somewhere a bit more tropical?)
The photo is from a friend. It shows a full-grown pineapple plant with a fruit in it. This plant is about half that size currently. It's well-rooted and has strong leaves. It just needs to live somewhere with warmer sun.
It'd also make a great addition to a tropical terrarium. It's safe for hermit crabs, most tropical carnivorous snakes, and most tropical reptiles. It's not safe for dessert reptiles (like bearded dragons). And I'm not sure if it's safe for any mammals. But with artificial sunlight, in a terrarium with proper humidity, it would probably do really well.
The longest stem reaches about 14 inches in length (1 inch in width). Pineapple plants are very very hardy and can survive almost anywhere, indoors. But they'll only fruit under proper 12 hour WARM sunlight- and this typically takes up to 10 years (or so I've been told).
This item comes from a smoke-free, pet-friendly home. It will be shipped via USPS First Class from Alaska and can take up to 4 weeks to arrive in the continental US. Any questions- feel free to ask!
