This auction is for Baoding balls (Chinese: 保定健身球; pinyin: Bǎodìng Jiànshēn Qiú). They are also known as Chinese exercise balls, Chinese meditation balls or Chinese medicine balls.

They are used to increase hand strength, dexterity, and to help relieve stress and anxiety.

I purchased these Baoding balls in San Francisco in 1991. I have used them off and on for several years. I recently started reusing them about 3 years ago, to help reduce stress and to help quit smoking (which I did quit 2 years ago).

The beautiful sound these make is not pleasant to the other people I work with unfortunately, so I will be getting some "silent" ones.
