Can't a single card just be sent in a regular envelope with $.44 postage?

Actually the shipping price reflects one of two options. Either I purchase a post card to safely mail the card in, plus the postage or I purchase a hard sleeve and purchase a smaller sized mailing envelope (not a standard which offers very little protection for the card). I just started here on Listia but if I get the chance to purchase a pack of thank you cards with envelopes of bubble packaged envelopes I might be able to lower future auctions to $1 shipping.
