20+ seeds harvested from my garden. Liatris offers a lot of flower power for little effort... another "Clean Thumb" gardening plant. These seeds were harvested this spring so cold moist stratification occurred (requires cold/wet conditions to ripen the seeds).

Known as Liatris or Blazing Star or Gay Feather.

This hardy prairie perennial is super resilient, plus is a hummingbird, bee and butterfly magnet.

It grows to 2 to 4 feet. The flowers are an erect spike with numerous, purple, button-like, stalkless flower heads blooming from the top down. Leaves are alternate, numerous, rough, and narrow along the entire stem. It flowers from mid-summer to late summer.

One of the many plants and animals Meriwether Lewis and William Clark discovered on their journey to get to the Pacific Ocean.

Liatris make good long lasting cut flowers. The blooms also dry easily for use in dried floral arrangements and the plant’s petals are often used in potpourri mixtures.
