Vintage Quilt - Tattered & Loved 67" X 81"

This is a very old quilt. I am not a quilter or a quilt collector. I came across this piece and wanted to save it and give it another opportunity to be appreciated and enjoyed by someone that loves quilts. It is rough but I think that is what gives it character!!

I believe this is what is called a crazy quilt. There are random pieces stitched together to make up the entire quilt. The pieces on the quilt top appear to have been stitched to another piece of fabric and then sewn to the red light flannel back. I say this because there are places where the top fabric has started cracking or tearing, but there is material underneath those areas. You can see an example of this in one of the pictures of the corners I took. The top fabric is almost completely gone in that piece gone but the fabric you see is not the flannel back. There are a few stains and areas that are cracking for whatever reason. I have tried taking several pictures so you get a feel for the item.

I by no means am qualified to tell you what the fabric contents are. I know the back is a very light red flannel material and appears to be in good condition for age. The front looks and feels like satin, silks, polyesters (not that 70's polyester) but polyester like in dress clothes.

The other thing I noticed right off is that the stitching is done in a variety of colors and is a heavy stitch like a yarn or needlepoint type thread instead of classic quilting/sewing thread.

I just think that even if it is not repairable, it would be a great piece to hang behind a couch, bed or other piece of furniture as ART.

While I am new to Listia, I am not new to auction sites. I have over 11,000 feedbacks over the past 5 years. Please ask questions if you have any and bid with confidence!

Questions & Comments

My grandma was a quilter from around this era. The inside material is probably a blanket. She would use an old blanket for the inside instead of quilt batting that most use now. And yes, this is a crazy quilt. The worn places can only be repaired by stitching down what is there now or sewing a patch over the hole to make it and even crazier quilt.

cool. It's a neat piece and even though the front pieces are tattered the back is in great shape

I will try to get a photo of the back up this evening. It is solid red flannel, so it will look pretty plain.
