The listing, Vintage Nesting Asian Bamboo Trinket Boxes has ended.
Unusual authentic nesting boxes from the Philippines. I really don't like using the term "vintage" because I'm not selling wine, but these are not your 'average' curio or souvenir from Guam, these are definitely a collectors item; most specifically because this type of nesting box is copied but lacking in quality.
You will note the multicolored dyed bamboo/straw weave is quite different and more complex than the new ones offered on the market today as well as the hand branded burn design depicting the palm trees and huts is unique, and not mass produced by a machine. Pay close attention to the intricate layering of the bamboo and compare these to others being offered. You won't find anything like these unless you stumble across them at an estate sale.
I was surprised to find them in my garage when we moved into our home.
I did a little research and discovered that these were a popular "send home" item from the Korean War era, and that the Asian design was actually inspired by the nesting tins from soldiers bringing items with them during WW2!
When I was shown the difference between the "fake" ones and the "real" ones, I was delighted.
UNFORTUNATELY the large box of the set looks like it was kicked around a bit, please make sure you view the photos very carefully before you bid. The smaller two are in perfect shape for their age, probably because they were nested inside the larger box.
The good news is that they don't smell and they are quite clean.
The largest box is 5 1/4" x 3 3/4"
Second largest is 4 1/2" x 3"
Smallest is 3 3/4" x 2 1/4"
