The listing, Antique Book: The Adventures of a Casket, Episode from Invasion of 1814, 1875 has ended.
This book was printed in 1875, and has a bit of history: I purchased it when I was a teenager from the antique shop in downtown Eastport, Maine, where I grew up.
The book is entitled "The Adventures of a Casket; an Episode of the Invasion of 1814", as translated from the French of Theophile Menard, and printed by the Benziger Brothers.
The book has spent all of its life in Maine, on the coast. It was perhaps of great interest to the first owner, whose name is written in pencil (it was given as a Christmas gift in 1880), because Eastport was occupied by the British during the War of 1812, and remained occupied until 1817. The very house I grew up in was used as the hospital by the British, and the ones who perished there are buried in the local graveyard; others were shipped in their caskets back to Britain.
So this book I have held onto. It's not in the greatest shape - the boards are warped and the outer spine separated so I had put clear tape over it.
The inside is in good condition, the pages are complete and not damaged.
182 pages, measures 10" long and 5" wide.
