The listing, Zephyr Summer Squash has ended.
Wow - look at these guys!
This is a fairly new hybrid variety - not an heirloom - but the payoff is that it is early and prolific and delicious...and, of course, it has that cool two-toned look!
I transplanted two young plants about a month ago and have 4 or 5 squash on each right now - the first squash of the season! Grilled 'em -- yum!
A bit of backstory on my interest in these squash: I was reading up on how to go about developing a variety of squash that is truly adapted to my particular spot on the planet. Basically, you can either keep growing one favorite variety, saving seeds from the plants that thrive & produce well - or you can grow several varieties and let them cross pollinate, grow out the seeds & choose promising plants to carry on with. For this approach, you want to end up with a lot of variation - and 'zephyr' was mentioned as having a lot of diversity in its gene-pool...so I got a packet, and the adventure begins...
And now I have extra seeds to share - the winner will receive 7 seeds - happy bidding!
