The listing, "Swanny" Pen drawing by Lucy Baker has ended.
It's 3 1/4"x 4 3/4" , drawn on 100% rag board (Which means it won't discolor fade, age or change much over time , unlike regular paper which will yellow, disintegrate and crumble over time. The more acid in paper the faster it fails. This is one of the highest grades of matte board on the market . It is used generally for framing to preserve valuable artwork., I like it because it reminds me of the old "blotter" paper I used to use for India ink drawings. It has a sort of "padded" soft feel And I always think if you really like how the pen and paper work together, you know the drawing will be good. "Swanny" my subject in this drawing was a "Bird" who came to live in my pond for many years in Stamford. He currently is in a new home in an office Park in Greenwich. He was very attached to me , a big very protective bird. He made me laugh the first time I looked out the window and saw him snapping at the mailman's butt!! Lol!! (The mailman was not hurt! He was laughing ,too!!) He chased him around and around the truck until finally the mailman jumped in and closed the door! At first it was more like play , but it got a bit more serious , so we decided it would be best for him to be with other swan , rather than thinking I was his "Girlfriend" Lol!!He was indeed like a jealous boyfriend and had zero tolerance for anyone who came near me (or my son)!! He was worse than a trained pit Bull!! But , I do miss him a lot! To me he was sweet an affectionate , when he came out of the pond , he'd flap his huge wings and shake off the water and preen himself before he'd come over to see me(like a man would comb his hair, adjust his tie, before a date) I totally understand why the stories of Leda and the Swan , there is something very personal in the behavior of swans, so incredibly human , and really they are the ultimate bird to depict love. Because they have such obviously strong attachments to humans (as I say he also adored my son , like he was his father).Very sweet!
