The listing, glorious black glass mourning cameo has ended.
A pretty piece that appears to be in a setting that to me looks to be gold filled. ( however i cannot guarantee that.) very ornate. it doubles as a pendant as well. it measures an inch and a half tall. the cameo itself is made of jet black glass. the new owner will be pleased with this. cam 1
thanks to my friend elaine we were able to find out more about these! she found a patent number on thee so we looked it up and here is what we found. Publication number US2066969 A Publication type Grant Publication date Jan 5, 1937 Filing date Feb 1, 1935 Priority date Feb 1, 1935 Inventors Farnham Frank E Original Assignee Farnham Frank E
Now I will let you know exactly what he patented. He actually invented the clasp for the mourning brooch and of course it was used on numerous other brooches.
I was amazed at the length of the description for the patent. Amazing that he loved Victorian style brooches and designed a much more stable clasp. This is the prettiest cameo that I have and I have almost enough to open a store. I really want this one for a very special friend.
Although not marked, it is possible gold filled, but because it is so nice I did not bother with an acid test. I did not buy for gold, but the cameo and beautifully designed pendant frame. Very bright and shows no tarnishing at all.
One more comment and I am done. The picture is so very far from the brilliance of the pendant and the cameo is awesome. I will bid against everyone for it, but don't want to take any potential bidders away, because this seller deserves the best she can get, whether it is my bid or someone else's bid. Thank you for listening.
