Yep. Most plants are dangerous to animals though, animals are smart enough to know which one's to eat and not to... well, most animals. I had a dog I believed to be half goat and garbage compactor. He was always eating something.. shoes, plants, rocks etc. I was always having to go to the vet with that dog.

Anywho. .. this plant is also called Datura. It belongs to the classic "witches' weeds," catagory along with deadly nightshade, henbane, and mandrake etc.

It's only allowed in North America (Canada, USA and yes Mexico is part of North America folks). If you're found traveling with a seed, leaf, petal, root anywhere outside of North America you will be jailed. They're truly a lovely plant particularly planted in clusters. Fancy, smancy, braniac flower people adore Datura ie White Devil's trumpet. The Devil's name was put in their for a purpose.

The poison / toxin whithin the plant is actually found in Datura's seeds and flowers. The leaves also carry a toxin known as atropine. The toxidity level can change due to temperature, rain levels, soil etc.

Witches/herbalists to the American colonies learned from the Indians that this plant can cause hallucination, poison, induced amnesia, diarrhea , photophobia, violent outbreaks, aches & pains, etc. It all depends upon the dosage and how it's prepaired.

I think the most beautiful part of the Dature / White Devil's trumpet plant is the actual seed pods. They're beautiful before they burst.

This plant grows freely on pastures, hillsides etc. Cows, horses, goats, dogs, cats etc in general don't even bother with it. They're smart enough to use their smell to know what they can eat and can't eat. But... if you have a stupid dog or cat that was probably dropped on it's head one too many times... you may be a little causious about having the plant. Definitly don't allow children to pick the flowers. Great auction. Cheers ~LosAngeles
