Description

The listing, Heavy Silver Military Medal - Pin has ended.

For your consideration is a very unusual vintage military medal/pin.

I really searched for information on this pin, but couldn't find much. What I do know is that the writing on the pin is in Latin and reads:
"Pro Patria Et Unitas".

Translation:
"For The Country and Unity".

The fact that the inscription is in Latin leads me to believe that the pin may be Italian in origin.
The pin is made of a heavy silver tone metal. I'm not sure the content of the metal as there is no marking. The measurements are 2" tall and 2" across.
The front has what looks to be a coat of arms with a blue enamel background with a silver lion, stat, and fleur dr Lise in silver.
The only marking on the pin are on the back of the pin at the closure. The inscription reads "Pat. 206968.

Thanks for looking! All Listia rules apply. Happy bidding.

I looked it up on google and I believe it's 101st Signal Battalion (United States). New York Army National Guard Insignia. Active from 2004-present.

Dragonfly577 -> please explain the difference in why this has a blue background and the one for the 101 ESB shows an Orange background. The elements are similar but in heraldry something like color is important to the point of being able to maybe even dating the piece. The 101 ESB has straight sides and this badge has ledges on the shield. Is it possible that your boyfriend could give more insight. As a miitary/heraldry Historian I am really interested.

O.k I discovered this NY Military website http://dmna.ny.gov/historic/histpocs.html and if you have a research question please call 518-581-5121for instructions on how to submit a question. They should be able to answer any questions. I think I tracked this down to about 1945/50 time period. But I am sure someone from this website could be more exact. So whoever wins best of luck

Might I put in my 2 cents....I just showed the pin to an active military guy. He said it is definitely not a military pin it is a family crest pin.
