can these beads be removed from the strands? Or are they affixed?

they are on a stretchy string, you could take them off, but it'd be hard to tie it back together. If you are wanting to just get the beads off, then yes you can get them off. Thanx!

great, yes I wanted them just for the beads. I make paper beads and can add these to the braclets that I make.
