Any chance it will turn the wearer's skin green?

With silver plating there is always a chance of the silver thinning by the body oils. So I guess if you have had this happen before, there is a chance it could happen again.

The company I bought it from says it is. Do you know a good way to tell if it is authentic?

Unfortunately, lapis varies so much that it is very difficult to judge authenticity without an almost microscopic view of the stone. For example, it is possible to have a genuine lapis that "bleeds" blue because, as the gem is so porous and varies in shade from brilliantly deep blue with flecks of gold to very light blue with no discernable flecks, some distributors will take the stone and dye it to enhance its color. Therein lies another issue because that is one of the ways sodalite is treated to mimic lapis. It's very convoluted!
Really, the only stand-out indicator of lapis versus sodalite and other imitators is price. Genuine lapis tends to be rather pricey as it is only mined in a few places worldwide and distribution is challenging.
Hope this helps! ☺
