I have the exact same one. Had it for over a year without any problems. I actually bought this for my family members & friends. I will answer what it is made of tomorrow when I get to my computer. You do not add water ever. Great product!

I would probably call your doctor or their assistant and ask. I don't see why it wouldn't be safe but definitely ask. It helps with soreness and stiffness in the muscles. I love it!
