Lysimachia clethroides, common name Gooseneck Loosestrife, is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant of the genus Lysimachia, traditionally classified in the family Primulaceae, but belonging to the family Myrsinaceae, according to a molecular phylogenetic study.

Lysimachia clethroides can reach heights of 60–100 centimetres (24–39 in). This hardy perennial plant resembles a tall Speedwell. The stem is upright and rigid. The leaves are scattered, alternate, oblong or broadly lanceolate, about 2 inches wide, 7 to 11 centimeters long, with entire margins. Their underside is not glandular dotted. The flowers are tiny (1/2" wide), grouped in terminal spikes, each flower is snow white, with five petals. The inflorescence is bent and it has a sparsely haired axis and reaches a length of 12-18". It flowers from July on to September. This plant forms underground stolons. It is a pioneer plant in its natural range.

May be considered invasive, but this perennial is really unusual! Control its spread by limiting the rhizomes in a large pot or with stone or brick border. The blooms (mid to late summer) are fragrant! Makes a great cut flower in arrangements!

Propagated by dividing rhizomes, tubers, corms or bulbs (including offsets)

I have them in a partly shady area. They like at least partial sun.

Sheridanayers, Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prefers moist, rich, humusy locations in full sun, but spreads by rhizomes and can be very aggressive in these ideal growing conditions. Tends to be somewhat less aggressive if grown in drier soils with light shade.

Mine are in partial shade. Yes, they spread by rhizomes.

It got unseasonably cold this past winter, and they are fine this summer.

Oh Great!! I have a shady place, with morning sun-a moist area (water dripping from woods down a bank of moss) that would be great spot to fill in the bare spots!

Yes, it sounds like they would be perfect. Lily of the Valley makes a good ground cover as well.

Plants-will it include the rhizomes?

It is almost impossible NOT to get some of the rhizomes. However, I can dig them to include only roots, whichever you prefer.
